Crocheting wire with angels

Sounds promising ....  I know :)
I just had a note from a new friend from Canada,  she  is trying my tutorials for the first time and wrote me that her grandma taught her this technique when she was little. its best if i put in her own words :
" My grand mother called it creating with the angels because the spool was invisible. She used to say this was the part the angels helped with and that's why we couldn't see the spool. Isn't that a such a fantastic thing to tell a child!"

I'm so excited about this name, it explains everything ..... I'm crocheting with angels !!!! LOL.....

I know it sounds like im gone mad, yesterday stones and energies today angels.... or maybe im finally on track,

happy Passover & Easter   :) its almost the same day this year

Crocheted wire jewelry and stones - this time prehniteis is in the spotlight

For those of you reading my posts regularly this is not a new subject...... but apparently it keeps occupying me.
"To stone or not to stone" , i visited a couple of weeks ago a shop specializing with stones in Tel Aviv.  The visit was SO intense, I could hardly breath, the shop was spacious and well lighten so I dont think it was a matter of air or space.

I find it hard to say out load but i think it was the energy of the stones, is it real ? I wonder.
since I didnt come with a set agenda of what I was going to buy I let myself wonder around through the overwhelming colors and pick the ones that were calling me the most. I felt like a child in a canady shop, i just wanted to have them all.

I asked the seller to indicate on each string what stone it was so I wont fail to recognize the ones i dont know, and there were quite a few of those.
When I came home I hung them next to my work table so i can see them for when i decide to actually use them.
one of the stones that were new to me was Prehnite, i didnt even know how to spell it untill a few seconds ago, I think that what was calling me about this stone is that it looks like a miniature forest that you can literally carry around with .

from what i read Prehnite  enhances inner knowledge, showing the path forward to spiritual growth, it is supposed to connect the will and the heart,. you are encouraged to wear it in order to strengthen your intuition and recognize truths.

well, even if it doesnt bring ll these thing isnt it a beauty ?

Crochting wire and your brain

Occasionally people that see my work for the firs time would stop by either virtually or in real life and say, WOW you are so patient !!! I could never do that...
For their astonishment  i tell them they couldn't be more wrong, I'm a rather active person that can't really stay still for too long. Crocheting is surprisingly calming , its my meditation . This is also why I refuse to refer to my jewelry  wire crocheting as work, so what if its a source of income.
When I started giving my workshops i learned i wasnt alone there, many of the woman i meet say it gives them this very same feeling, especially with the designs that require more crocheting then assembling, such as the Cleopatra necklace, the YoolaCuff or the YoolaTube necklace.
But all this i already knew , what surprised me was that the other day when i was talking to a colleague about my wire crocheting addiction, he told me that studies show it also has benefits to the brain, (is that's why woman age better then man.... I wonder...).
I googled it and learned that according to Neuroscientist Dr. Yonas Geda from the Mayo Clinic, these activities seem to be neuro-protective and have been shown to reduce memory loss in later years by as much as 50%. he says that these activities also help to:
Lower stress
Reduce pain
Reduce symptoms of depression
Boost your immune system
Lower your blood pressure

enjoy your crocheting, knitting, sewing :)

nevousinstallezpas - a favorite crochet artist

I'v been planing to write  about Veerle Maes and nevousinstallezpas  for ages now, but whenever i visit her blog to pick the items i want to share with you, I just get so overwhelmed and dont know what to pick. Its like visiting a fantasy land.
Veerle is a true crochet artist, crochet with yarn can easily  look common , but she  manages to take this old technique and use it in making of real pieces of art. From what i read her inspiration is nature and Africa , you dont need to know it to get the vibes. The structures together with the colors talk for themselves.

The forms are clean , with wonderful proportions and marvelous color schemes.

I found a nice phrase on her site saying something like :
jewelery are not to show what you own but to show WHO you are!

I warmly recommend to visit her site and blog and get inspired :)
and of course also her etsy shop

What is Goldfilled מהו גולדפילד

I occasional get asked what exactly is gold filled and what is the difference between gold filled and gold plating.
Gold filled is made of a solid layer of gold bonded with heat and pressure onto a base metal, occasionally brass but in some cases silver. The gold part can be any type of gold in weight and in color, although the most common ones are yellow and rose 14k.
If you are looking to compare it with gold plating its a bit tricky since the gold layer on gold plated jewelry depends on the manufacturer and varies,  a rough figure is that Gold-filled items are 50 to 100,000 times thicker than regular gold plating.

This is of course just the tip of the iceberg , if you are looking for more in depth explanations you are welcome to read this detailed article : http://www.artisanplating.com/articles/goldfilled.html

Ruth Asawa

From time to time I get asked if I know Ruth Asawa work since my designs resembles the flare and airiness of her work, only in  a much different scale ...  this of course sent me googling her to see her work.
I didnt know her work but was so amazed from what I saw, she makes large to huge wire works, where the transparency of the meshes give brilliant results, the objects look  floating.
The technique in which she work seems quite different from mine, if I'm not mistaken its more like viking knitting where you sort of  weave the wires (which are thicker) rather then knit it.

"I have made doing art part of my life. Art is doing. There is either doing or talking about it. Art deals direclty with life. After it is done, someone comes along to write about it; then someone comes along to exhibit it [...]. The only step that is truly real is the first step. The making of the object. This is the step that children should be involved with completely. This involvement helps them to learn their capabilities and limitations. It is learning by making."  Ruth Asawa, 1970.
enjoy a taste of her marvelous work :
